Airport security investment to improve the passenger experience
21st April 2022Guernsey Ports will comprehensively refresh its airport hand luggage screening equipment during the first half of 2022.
This investment supports the Guernsey Airport Master Plan’s aims of maintaining safety and regulatory compliance whilst improving the customer experience.
The new scanning equipment is state-of-the-art and can be adapted to meet future airport requirements. Enabling work will commence shortly, with the bulk of the construction activity due to take place from late April to early July 2022.
The budget is £1.5 million and is part of a broader investment programme in security at Guernsey Airport.
Guernsey Ports’ Head of Passenger Operations and Aviation Security, Steve Langlois, said:
“The investments we are making will improve the overall experience for our passengers as they will have more time to relax and enjoy the facilities and amenities in our departure lounge before boarding their flight.”
There will be some temporary disruption to security processes during the project as there will be one lane in operation. This may result in longer queue times, particularly at peak periods.
Mr Langlois added:
“These works will cause some disruption at times and we are grateful for the understanding of our passengers. Whilst the construction and delivery phase for this investment is relatively short, we advise all passengers to allow plenty of time for their journey through the airport, especially during busy peak periods. Both security lanes will be in operation for the beginning of the May half-term only as we anticipate an increase in air travel during that period.”
