Aurigny celebrates the success of its Barcelona route
17th August 2016Malcolm Coupar, Aurigny’s Commercial Director, says: “Barcelona caught the imagination of our customers and it’s been a successful venture for both islanders and the airline. Adding a new destination to our network involves a lot of work from securing the airport slots to arranging ground handling. Everything went smoothly and we’re keen, at this stage, to feature Barcelona in our summer 2017 schedule with hopefully more flights. Those plans should be finalised by late November.”
Captain Nigel Green, Aurigny’s Embraer Fleet Manager, piloted the aircraft on its first two flights to and from the Catalan capital. He says: “The Embraer 195 performed faultlessly on the Barcelona service which proves just how reliable and versatile an aircraft it is. We were cruising at 39,000 feet and the average flight duration was one hour and 20 minutes. One passenger asked me why it was faster than the Gatwick run, which obviously it isn’t, but this shows how smooth and speedy the service was.”
He continues: “I’d like to thank everyone involved in the Barcelona operation, including our pilots, crew, ground staff, check in teams and engineers who all worked hard to ensure the service was seamless.”
Many Aurigny customers have been proactive in contacting the airline to share their positive feedback. Jon emailed: “Many thanks for the wonderful opportunity of flying direct to Barcelona because it made for an affordable get-away. There was a great atmosphere on the plane and we were all well looked after by the Aurigny team. A good write up in the in-flight magazine on the destination also was a plus.”
Karen wrote: “What a great difference it made to our holiday. We have travelled to this area many times over the past 20 years, sometimes driving, sometimes going from Gatwick. This time we travelled with family and a little one and Aurigny was by far the easiest, cheapest and fastest way to go.”
