Guernsey tourism boost as Blue Islands direct Cardiff service to return
Wales will be just an hour away again this summer, as local airline and Flybe franchise partner Blue Islands confirms the return of its Guernsey to Cardiff service, following its 2017 launch.
Rob Veron, Blue Islands CEO, said he hoped the route would boost visitor numbers.
“Blue Islands continues its commitment to stimulate the Guernsey visitor economy by adding a direct link to a major city during summer. Thanks to our participation in Flybe’s sales channels, Guernsey will once again enjoy exposure to thousands of potential new visitors. With two flights a week and competitive pricing, we hope many of them will take the opportunity to visit our wonderful island. This link also provides islanders with another direct city break option, along with Cardiff being the gateway to South Wales.”
Operating between 29 May and 1 September, flights are available on Tuesdays and Saturdays, removing the Thursday rotation after lower than expected numbers in 2017.
“Despite offering cheaper fares and being marketed in the same channels as the Cardiff to Jersey route, 8,792 people flew to Jersey, compared with 3,264 flying to Guernsey. This suggests Jersey’s tourist offering is currently more appealing than Guernsey’s. We welcome the forthcoming Committee for Economic Development’s publication of the tourism product review, and believe it to be an important step in the rejuvenation of the island’s tourist economy”, Mr Veron added.
