Airport Terminal Roof Investigation Underway

Guernsey Airport has started work to resolve ongoing issues with the passenger terminal roof.
The Ports already has a monitoring and maintenance programme in place to address ad hoc issues with the terminal roof cladding system. However, due to its age and the increasing frequency of bad weather events, the integrity of the system now needs to be fully examined.
A comprehensive survey will be carried out by specialist engineers to determine what remediation options are available.
Small-scale scaffold structures have been erected in various areas of the roof in order to affect recent repairs and provide ongoing access for monitoring purposes. To facilitate the full survey, the remainder of the roof areas will need to be enclosed with scaffolding.
Guernsey Ports’ Chief Commercial and Infrastructure Officer Ben Le Huray said:
“We have commissioned this investigation to establish what options we have to safeguard and extend the useful life of the terminal roof cladding system. In the meantime, appropriate measures and plans are in place to protect the safety of passengers, aircraft and operations. The Ports will be working closely with specialist engineers to determine what the future course of action should be.”
No major impacts to airport operations or passenger access and egress to the terminal are anticipated whilst this survey work is underway.
