We know travelling can be an exciting or a stressful experience for all our passengers. Knowing what you can and cannot take with you can make security screening as pleaseant an experience as possible, please follow our advice and tips below to be prepared.

Our general advice is to make sure you arrive early at the airport, at least 90 minutes prior to departure for all flights and allow plenty of time for security screening.

  • Airlines flying from Guernsey/Alderney Airports have their own restrictions on weight allowance for hold and hand baggage. It’s down to you to make sure the number of hand baggage items you take through security meets your airline’s guidelines to avoid being refused entry at the boarding gate.
  • Have only your boarding pass (electronic or a paper version) ready for inspection.

  • Have all your toiletries, aftershaves, perfumes, cosmetics, gels and pastes (in containers of 100ml or less) in a transparent resealable plastic bag.

  • Please remove all items of outer clothing coats. This includes all coats, jackets, fleeces, hoodies with or without zips, scarfs, hats, large items of jewellery, and belts, these will all be screened separately.

  • You may be asked to remove your electronic device(s) (laptop, tablet or mobile devices) and any other large electrical items from your hand baggage. These items may be screened separately.

  • You may be asked by security staff to remove your footwear before going through the security archway.

  • If you are able to stand unaided, you may be asked to enter the body scanner.

  • Sunflower lanyards are worn by people who have a hidden disability. It indicates they may need additional support. If you need a Sunflower Lanyard, please ask for one at the Airport Information Desk before entering the security screening area.

Lithium batteries: Your phone, laptop and other electronic devices may contain lithium batteries. Lithium batteries and e-cigarettes are dangerous goods. Please do not carry such items in your hold baggage, please carry them instead with you as items of hand baggage. Follow this link for further information on Lithium batteries.

The check-in areas are located at the left or western end of the landside concourse and are clearly signed within the terminal. If you have already checked in online and only have hand baggage you may go directly through security to the departure lounge.

When to arrive

We recommend you arrive at least 90 minutes before your flight is scheduled to depart. This is to ensure an on-time departure.

At check-in

To save time, please have your acceptable identification ready (check with your airline for acceptable ID) and make sure your hand baggage contains only valuables and items you will need during the journey.

Online check-in

Some airlines offer online check-in from two to 24 hours before departure. You will be able to choose your seat or print your boarding card from your computer, tablet or mobile device – and when you get to the airport, simply take your baggage to the bag drop facility. Some airlines will also offer check-in and ticketing through their own app for mobile or tablet devices and is availible on your devices' app store.

Twilight check-in

Passengers travelling with hold baggage items can check-in for early morning UK red-eye flights operated by Aurigny, the afternoon before departure.

The service opening times are between 3pm and 8pm, 7 days per week (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).  For flights on New Year's Eve the service opening times are between 3pm and 5pm.

Hand luggage

We recommend that you check the maximum size and quantity of hand luggage items allowed with your airline, prior to your departure.

Security and boarding

We recommend you go directly through security after check-in and into the departures lounge. There's plenty to do in the departure lounge, from duty free shopping, the cafe/restaurant and bar, or just relax in the lounge. There's also free Wi-Fi and a TV available. Information screens in the departures lounge show flights, boarding times, and gate numbers. Boarding times can vary, but usually begin around 20 minutes before departure.

If passengers need special assistance please book this at the time of booking your flight. Airlines require a notice period of 48 or 72 hours prior to departure.
