Due to the potential physical and technical effects that tall construction equipment may have on airport operations, Guernsey and Alderney Airports should be consulted before the use of temporary obstacles, such as cranes or other tall construction equipment.
Failure to consult with the airport could result in, enforcement action being taken against the crane operator under the Aviation (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2008.
The Assessment Process
The requirements are for those cranes and tall equipment within 6km (3.72 miles) of either airport that are operating at either 10 metres (10.93 yards) above ground level (AGL) or higher than the surrounding structures or trees must be notified to and approved by the airport.
You will be asked to input all relevant information for an assessment to be made. We ask that you notify Guernsey Airport with at least seven working days’ notice so we can carry out the relevant safety assessments and if there are any concerns or operational requirements, the appropriate briefings and control measures can be put in place.
Guernsey Airport understands that sometimes it is necessary to urgently erect a crane and therefore any applications within the seven day period will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
Please remember that any unauthorised crane constitutes an offence under the Aviation (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2008, which states that “A person shall not recklessly or negligently act in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft, or any person therein.”
